Microplastics and antibiotics bibliometric analysis and candidate evidence mapping
AI summary Read the abstract
This project organizes 527 scientific publications (2018-2026) about microplastics and antibiotics into a searchable database, tracking research trends, common keywords, and topics studied. It provides reusable code, data tables, and figures, but notes that connections found between microplastics and antibiotics in these papers are based on text patterns, not confirmed lab experiments.
Microplastics and antibiotics bibliometric analysis and candidate evidence mapping (v0.3.0) This repository provides a reproducible R workflow, curated bibliometric data, analytical source tables, and publication-quality figures for research on microplastic–antibiotic interactions. The original literature search retrieved 775 records from the Web of Science Core Collection on 31 July 2026. Following eligibility screening and restriction to publication years 2018–2026, the final analytical dataset comprised 527 publications (472 research articles and 55 reviews). The workflow supports bibliometric analysis of publication trends, research contributions, keyword co-occurrence networks, thematic evolution, and text-based mapping of microplastic polymers, antibiotic classes, environmental settings, and research endpoints. Sensitivity analyses assess the effects of text-field selection, document-type inclusion, and dictionary overlap. The archive includes R scripts, configuration files, screening decisions, derived analytical tables, and 22 standalone figure panels provided in PDF, SVG, and PNG formats. All figures can be reproduced from the publicly supplied source tables. Full reconstruction from bibliographic records requires access to the corresponding licensed Web of Science exports, which are not redistributed. Text-based co-occurrences represent candidate bibliographic associations rather than independently verified experimental exposures, effects, or causal mechanisms. Software: R 4.5.2, with dependency information provided in the archive. Licensing: Source code is distributed under the MIT License. Original derived data and figures are provided under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0), subject to third-party rights and exclusions. Version: 0.3.0.

Impact of antibiotics on microbial community in aquatic environment and biodegradation mechanism: a review and bibliometric analysis
AI summary Read the abstract
A bibliometric analysis of 6143 papers on antibiotic effects on aquatic microbial communities found exponential growth in publications and identified three research clusters, including the important topic of microplastics combined with antibiotics as a key hotspot.
Co-occurence of antibiotics and micro(nano)plastics: a systematic review between 2016-2021

This systematic review examines how microplastics and antibiotics interact in the environment. It finds that microplastics can absorb and carry antibiotics, potentially spreading antibiotic resistance and creating combined health risks that are greater than either pollutant alone.
