Sosialisasi Prinsip 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) dalam Pengelolaan Sampah di Desa Pakuan

AI summary Read the abstract

Residents of Pakuan Village, Indonesia, took part in a community training program teaching the 3R principle (reduce, reuse, recycle), focused on turning plastic packaging waste into items like bags, wallets, and keychains. Participants showed improved understanding of waste management and learned basic techniques for converting plastic waste into usable products.

The problem of household waste, especially single-use plastic waste, is still a major challenge in environmental management in Pakuan Village, Narmada District, West Lombok Regency. Low public awareness of waste sorting and plastic waste reuse has led to an increase in environmental pollution and the application of the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R) principles has not been optimal. This service activity aims to increase the knowledge and skills of the community regarding the application of the 3R principle through training on upcycling plastic waste into products with economic value. The activity was carried out using a participatory-educational approach which included problem identification, coordination with the village government, preparation of materials, socialization, demonstrations, plastic waste treatment practices, evaluation, and mentoring. The training utilizes plastic waste in the form of used soap packaging, detergents, food, coffee, and beverages to be processed into shopping bags, wallets, keychains, pencil boxes, tissue boxes, and various other handicraft products. The results of the activity showed that participants gained an increased understanding of 3R-based waste management and were able to practice basic techniques of upcycling plastic waste into products that have use value and potential economic value. The enthusiasm of the participants and the support of the village government are the main supporting factors for the success of the activity. This program is expected to be able to encourage changes in community behavior in waste management, strengthen the implementation of the circular economy at the village level, and open up opportunities for the development of creative businesses based on the use of plastic waste.
