Dataset: Bibliometric Analysis of Seagrass–Microplastic Research, 2018–2025
Summary
This study reviews 108 research papers published between 2018-2025 to map what scientists know about microplastic pollution in seagrass meadows, the underwater grasses that act as nurseries for fish and help store carbon in our oceans. Rather than presenting new experiments, it identifies gaps in current research, showing where more study is needed to understand how plastic pollution affects these ecosystems that support seafood supplies and ocean health. This matters because seagrasses may trap microplastics that could eventually make their way into the food chain, yet research on this connection is still limited.
This repository contains the dataset supporting a bibliometric analysis of scientific publications on seagrass and microplastic pollution, covering the period 2018–2025. Data source: OpenAlex (https://openalex.org)Date of access: 7 August 2026 Search query (title and abstract fields):("seagrass" OR "seagrasses" OR "eelgrass" OR "Zostera" OR "Posidonia" OR "Thalassia" OR "Cymodocea" OR "Halodule" OR "Syringodium" OR "Enhalus") AND ("microplastic" OR "microplastics" OR "micro-plastic" OR "micro-plastics") Files included:1. openalex_data_20260807_154955.xlsx — Raw export from OpenAlex (n=184 records), before filtering.2. dataset_final_terkoreksi.xlsx — Final filtered dataset (n=108 articles) analyzed in the manuscript, after applying document type (research article), language (English), publication year (2018–2025), and manual relevance screening criteria. This dataset supports the manuscript: "Bibliometric Analysis of Microplastic Pollution in Seagrass Ecosystems: Research Dynamics and Knowledge Gaps (2018–2025)" by Mardatillah Z and Rohani Ambo-Rappe, Hasanuddin University, Indonesia.
