This review paper looks at how poultry farms and processing plants can turn waste, like feathers, manure, and leftover animal parts, into useful products instead of throwing them away or letting them pollute the environment. Researchers found these "waste" materials can become protein-rich animal feed, fertilizer, biogas for energy, and even biodegradable plastic, which matters because it reduces pollution while creating safer, more sustainable resources. For consumers, this means smarter waste management in the food industry could lead to less environmental contamination and more sustainably produced animal feed and everyday products.
India is known for its vast livestock wealth. Poultry slaughtering and different post-processing operations in abattoirs generate perishable wastes and byproducts. Effective management of waste and the utilization of byproducts has always been a task for both food industries and the government. The waste utilization has a huge impact on the country&s;s economy and in combating environmental pollution. The ineffective utilization of byproducts and management of waste from poultry can raise aesthetic as well as appalling health concerns. Therefore, there is a shift of paradigm for the waste to be seen as a valuable resource for producing value-added products. Both waste and byproducts from the poultry industry are excellent sources of protein. The poultry manure can be used as fertilizers and 216 to produce biogas and electricity. The poultry byproducts are rendered to produce the byproduct meals containing around 64 to 68% protein, which are used as animal feed. The feathers as a byproduct, due to their abundance in keratin proteins and amino acids, can be used to make important goods including feather meal, biodiesel, biodegradable plastic, and fertilizer. This chapter focuses on summarizing such proper management practices, innovative processing methods, and effective alternatives for recycling of poultry waste and byproducts for sustainable development.
