The application of artificial nests presents an effective way to remedy the current situation of degradation and reduction of the surface area of natural reproduction areas (bodies) of many phytophilic fish species, thus contributing to the maintenance and restoration of populations of economically valuable fish species in natural aquatic ecosystems with disturbed hydrological regimes. Data from domestic and foreign research on the effectiveness of the practical use of various traditional technologies for the use of artificial breeding nests are presented. Research in this field has allowed the identification of preferential types of nests, determined the peculiarities of their location and operation in different areas of reservoirs (dam lakes) and river systems. It has been established that the use of synthetic materials in their manufacture (used as breeding substrates, which do not present a source of microplastic pollution) significantly increases the durability and efficiency of the application of artificial nests in the current conditions of continuous degradation of aquatic habitats, significantly contributing to increasing fish productivity.
