Researchers in Northern Ireland teamed up experts from business, design, and engineering to tackle beach plastic pollution in a new way, combining community beach cleanups with creative problem-solving to reduce waste before it breaks down into the ocean. This matters because plastic that lingers on beaches and in water eventually breaks into microplastics, tiny particles that end up in seafood and drinking water and may pose risks to our health—so preventing this pollution at the source helps protect both marine life and us.
