Abstract Marine oil spill pollution accidents occur frequently, and the types of oil skimmers for oil spill recovery are complex and diverse. However, the existing oil recovery equipment has insufficient recovery efficiency for low-viscosity, easily diffused light oil (the diesel oil recovery rate is less than 50 %), and the oil-contaminated water has a high-water content, which makes it difficult to meet the emergency disposal requirements of oil spills. This study focuses on the core components of the disc-type oil skimmer, and carries out the formula optimization and process improvement of polymer composite materials in view of the defects of lipophilic and hydrophobic properties of traditional alloy and plastic discs. By adjusting the proportion of plasticizers and reinforcing agents and combining 3D printing with a low-pressure injection curing process using silicone molds, this study successfully developed the second-generation lipophilic and hydrophobic disc material. Laboratory tests show that the average recovery rate of this material for light oils such as diesel oil and gasoline is more than 95 %, with a water content of only 0.22 %; it has no corrosion after 24 hours of oil immersion and no performance attenuation after 4 hours of continuous operation, which solves the industry pain points of low light oil recovery efficiency and poor equipment reliability. The research results provide efficient technical support for oil spill emergency disposal.
