However, critical gaps remain in detection methodologies for nanoplastics (<1 μm) and harmonized MP limits for food products. This study highlights the need for: (1) Enhanced monitoring protocols integrating advanced detection technologies; (2) Risk assessments tailored to Chinese dietary patterns; and (3) Cross-sectoral policies addressing agricultural, industrial, and consumer-level contamination sources. As China balances economic growth with environmental health, its approach to MP contamination will have global implications for food safety governance. Future efforts must prioritize international collaboration, standardized regulations, and technological innovation to safeguard food systems in the plastic age.
