Response of barnacle nauplii to microplastic exposure and algal size: survival, grazing and behavior

Scientists studied how baby barnacles (tiny sea creatures) react when they encounter microplastic particles while trying to eat algae, and found that contact with plastic bits caused the larvae to switch from feeding mode to swimming away. This matters because it shows microplastics can disrupt feeding behavior at the very bottom of the ocean food chain—and since these tiny creatures are eaten by fish that eventually end up on our plates, disruptions here could ripple upward through the food web we depend on.
We examined survival, algal consumption, and behavioral responses of barnacle Semibalanus balanoides nauplii exposed to different algal species and microplastics. This dataset contains five videos corresponding to Table 1 in the manuscript, "Response of Barnacle Nauplii to Microplastic Exposure and Algal Size: Survival, Grazing, and Behavior". These recordings document naupliar responses to microplastic exposure and were used to quantify behavioral transitions from feeding to swimming mode following particle contact.
