The Influence of Fluvial Bar Morphodynamics on Microplastic Distribution

This study used computer simulations to model how flood strength affects where microplastics settle in river sandbars, comparing small floods to larger ones. Note that this paper focuses on providing technical simulation data rather than reporting new health findings, but understanding where microplastics accumulate in rivers matters because these waterways often feed into drinking water sources. Knowing how floods redistribute microplastics could eventually help identify hotspots to monitor or clean up before they reach our water supply.
This repository contains the iRIC Nays2DH numerical simulation files, calculation conditions and discharge hydrographs, used to investigate the influence of fluvial bar morphodynamics on microplastic distribution. The simulations include representative small-flood and moderate-flood scenarios with peak discharges of 40 m³/s and 200 m³/s, respectively. The repository provides the input files and model outputs used to analyze the transport, deposition, and redistribution of microplastics on a river bar under varying hydraulic conditions. These materials are provided to support the reproducibility and transparency of the study.
