This paper presents a simple, reusable, and environmentally friendly water purification system based on cross-linked chitosan hydrogel beads enclosed within a fine-mesh pouch. Unlike conventional chitosan treatments that disperse powder directly into water and generate sludge, the proposed design immobilizes the chitosan within a stable hydrogel structure, allowing contaminants to adsorb directly onto the bead surfaces. As contaminated water passes through the pouch, pollutants such as heavy metals, suspended solids, oils, organic matter, and selected microplastics are removed through electrostatic attraction and porous adsorption. After treatment, the pouch is simply removed, leaving no residual chemicals or sludge in the water. Owing to its portability, reusability, and low manufacturing cost, the system offers a practical solution for household, emergency, and small-scale water purification applications.
