Researchers catalogued macrolitter deposited in tidal marsh wrack zones across the Chesapeake Bay estuary, recording item types, sources, and provenance from fieldwork conducted August through December 2025 to support analysis of plastic litter impacts on coastal wetland carbon dynamics.
Data include variables on item types, uses, provenance, dates, and general and specific sources of macrolitter found in wrack deposits of tidal marshes in the Chesapeake Bay, USA. These data were collected between August and December 2025 in the postdoctoral project of Dr. Ostin Garcés Ordóñez titled “The hidden cost of plastic litter in coastal wetlands: impacts on carbon gas fluxes and blue carbon stocks in mangrove and salt marsh soils,” and were used in the research article “Macrolitter accumulation in tidal marsh wrack deposits in a large estuary,” published in Marine Pollution Bulletin (10.1016/j.marpolbul.2026.119848).
