Summary
This study assessed microplastic contamination in Croatian river systems draining into the Adriatic Sea, quantifying loads and identifying major polymer types at multiple sampling stations. Annual flux estimates indicated that Croatian rivers contribute substantially to Adriatic microplastic budgets, with seasonal variation linked to precipitation and flood events.
