Summary
This study examined the importance of reducing single-use plastic bags in Indonesia through Ecocapsitbag, an environmentally friendly alternative product, while also advocating for disaster literacy education at the elementary school level. The authors argue that integrating plastic waste awareness into disaster mitigation education from an early age can simultaneously address environmental threats and build student preparedness.
The condition of plastic waste in Indonesia is very worrying and its management is still below standard. The most common type of plastic waste is plastic bag waste. It is necessary to reduce single-use plastic bags using environmentally friendly products. This study aims to provide an overview of the importance of reducing single-use plastic bags using Ecocapsitbag products and to provide an understanding of the importance of increasing capacity at the elementary school level through disaster literacy in the application of disaster mitigation education. Understanding of disaster needs to be instilled from an early age through formal and non-formal education. This study uses a qualitative approach through the study of literature (library). The results of this study are (1) Ecocapsitbag products are solutions and actions to reduce single-use plastic bags and (2) availability of literacy media for disaster mitigation education for elementary school students with the aim of increasing student preparedness for disasters as well as making students aware of the importance of protecting the environment from the dangers of plastic waste that can threaten human survival and can cause disasters.
