A Heart Made of Plastic Plastic Exposure as a Risk Factor for Coronary and Carotid Artery Disease
Summary
This review examines the evidence linking micro- and nano-plastic (MNP) exposure to coronary and carotid artery disease, investigating the pathological mechanisms by which MNPs may contribute to cardiovascular conditions and whether other co-contaminants may contribute to observed effects. The review aims to assess the state of evidence on plastic exposure as a cardiovascular risk factor and identify gaps requiring further research.
The main aim of this review is to:- Determine the impact of plastic exposure, particularly micro or nano plastics (MNPs) on the occurrence of coronary and carotid artery disease.- Investigate the main pathological cause of such effect and whether other chemicals or contaminants can also be responsible.
