Identifikasi Mikroplastik Pada Limbah Laundry di Kota Pontianak
AI summary Read the abstract
Researchers identified microplastics in laundry wastewater from a laundromat in Pontianak, Indonesia, finding that all particles were fiber-shaped with acrylonitrile butadiene styrene and polyethylene polymers present, and that the washing cycle released the highest concentration at an average of 2,239 particles per liter, with detergent, garment age, spin system, and water presence all influencing fiber release.

AI summary Read the abstract
Domestic washing machine effluent released between 26 and 143 microplastic particles per 50 mL sample—equivalent to 100,000 to 558,000 particles per wash cycle—with polyester/PET identified as the dominant polymer via FTIR analysis. This quantifies laundry as a significant microplastic emission pathway into wastewater systems and underscores the urgent need for washing machine filters and improved wastewater treatment to reduce environmental discharge.
Domestic Laundry as a Potential Source of Microfiber Pollution for the Deli River Medan
AI summary Read the abstract
Every time you wash your clothes—whether by hand or machine—thousands of tiny plastic fibers (called microfibers) wash down the drain and into rivers, with this study finding over 1,300 particles per liter of laundry wastewater. These microplastics can eventually make their way into drinking water and the food chain, so the researchers suggest that better management of household wastewater could help reduce this often-overlooked source of pollution.
Identifikasi Kelimpahan Dan Karakteristik Mikroplastik Pada Instalasi Pengolahan Air Limbah Komunal Kota Denpasar
AI summary Read the abstract
Researchers assessed the abundance and characteristics of microplastics at a communal wastewater treatment plant in Denpasar, Indonesia, sampling from four locations including pump stations and inlet/outlet points. The study aimed to quantify how effectively the facility removed microplastics originating from laundry water, cosmetics, and domestic wastewater.
Optical, spectroscopic and thermal analysis of fibers released during laundry washing cycle
AI summary Read the abstract
Researchers analyzed the synthetic fibers released from laundry washing using optical microscopy, spectroscopy, and thermal analysis to fully characterize their size, polymer composition, and structure. The study found that a significant number of plastic fibers are released per wash cycle and that current wastewater treatment is insufficient to capture all of them before they reach waterways. Detailed fiber characterization is important for developing targeted solutions to reduce this major source of microplastic pollution.
Quantifying shedding of microplastic fibers from textile washing

Laboratory washing experiments on polyamide, acrylic, and polyester textile samples quantified microplastic fiber shedding during simulated domestic laundry. The study found measurable fiber release from all three synthetic materials, contributing data on this major source of microplastics entering wastewater systems.
